What happens?
This page tells you what happens if you decide that Shared Lives Dumfries & Galloway would be a good way for you to get support to do the things you want to do.
- Your Social Worker will work with The Richmond Fellowship Scotland team to identify a Shared Lives Carer through the matching process for you to live with.
- We will chat to you and ask you about the things you like and things you do not like and if there is anything you want support with. You can ask us any questions about Shared Lives.
Working with you
- We will tell you about some of our Shared Lives carers who through the matching process who would be a potential match for you to live with and allow you to live the life of your choice .
- You will meet up with people who could be your Shared Lives carer a few times to allow you to visit their home meet their family and pets if they have them. It will be a joint decision by everyone involved that you are all compatible to be part of this shared lives placement make up your mind about if you like it. It is important that we get the right family for you to live a life of your choice supported by the right people to meet your individual needs.
- We will support you in relocating to your new family home enlisting the help of other services where these are required .You can involve family and friends or alternatively you can have an advocate at meetings to represent you and help you make decisions that are right for you and your life.
- We will support you with your new Shared Lives carer to do the things you said you want to do and things you want to learn
- We will support you to set and meet outcomes and these will be monitored and reviewed every 6 months to ensure you are getting the best care and support to help you meet these
- We will meet with you and your carer regularly to monitor the placement and ensure its working for everyone
