Is Shared Lives right for me?
Being part of a Shared Lives placement is different to residential living where you share a home with other people or where you have a number of different carers providing you with care and support
- The same carer will get to know you really well.
- You will have a person centred assessment of your individual care and support needs alongside with your social worker.
- There will be a matching process where you and your chosen carer /family will all be assessed for compatibility.
- You will have your own bedroom if it is a respite or short /long term placement that is being provided along with access to all communal living areas.
- Your carer will support you to maintain the skills you have or have forgotten, and you will be enabled to learn new skills both in your home and in the community.
Making sure you are safe
- We will ensure your carers and anyone over the age of 18 residing permanently in that home have an enhanced Protecting Vulnerable groups disclosure Scotland check done every 3 years
- We will ensure the home is compliant with all current health and safety legislation and annual checks are carried out and recorded
- We will do planned and unannounced visits to ensure the quality of the service is to the expected standards
- You will be given access to important contact details for The Richmond fellowship service and Social work to allow you to make contact at any time
- Carers will be trained to provide the care and support you require to keep you safe
- We will undertake risk assessments based on your individual needs
- We will ensure you have a person centred support plan that you are involved in and if required easy read document to help you understand this will be provided
